Punch a Higher Floor

Dearly beloved
We are gathered here today
To get through this thing called life…

‘Cause in this life
Things are much harder than in the after world
In this life
You’re on your own

And if the elevator tries to bring you down
Go crazy, punch a higher floor.

The elevator has definitely brought us down today. I was out running some errands this morning, and when I got in the car, the radio announcer announced that Prince had died, then the melodic chords of Purple Rain filled the car,Prince-CTC and I was truly saddened. Growing up watching the Purple Rain movie over, and over, and over again, and each time being overtaken by the emotion of this song in the movie, brought a tear to my eye in light of the news. Prince was definitely an icon during my high school years. Who didn’t have a crush on him, with those dark eyes, and that mischievous smile, the clothes he wore, plus he could dance AND sing. An extraordinary musician, who could rock those high heeled boots better than anyone!! Truly a musical legend, and even though we can’t see it, I bet he is laughing in the Purple Rain.

  1. I knooowww!!! So sad and far too young to go. Very talented man and he even only lived about 3 hours from my house in the Twin Cities! HIs music was the soundtrack of so much of my teen years. I bet you’re right about the fact that he’s still dancing and singing somewhere. 🙂
Blessings my fellow 80’s Kindred Friend. xoxo
